Wuhou Temple

Wuhou Temple (Temple of Marquis Wu)‌ in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, is a renowned historical site commemorating Zhuge Liang (181-234 AD), the legendary strategist of the Three Kingdoms period. Built in 223 AD during the Shu Han dynasty, it uniquely combines the tombs of Zhuge Liang (Marquis Wu) and Liu Bei (Emperor Zhaolie) within its grounds, reflecting their profound bond.

The temple complex features traditional Chinese architecture, including the iconic “Red Wall Alley” lined with ancient cypresses. Its halls display cultural relics like the “Three Successes Stele” (recording Zhuge Liang’s military, political, and literary achievements) and Qing-dynasty wooden carvings. The tranquil gardens and inscribed couplets offer insights into Chinese philosophy.

As one of China’s most influential Three Kingdoms heritage sites, it attracts history enthusiasts worldwide. The adjacent Jinli Ancient Street enhances the cultural experience with Sichuan snacks and handicrafts. Open daily (8:00-18:00), the temple hosts annual commemorative ceremonies during traditional festivals.
